Clara Bow Clutch (No. 142)
Pictured as a clutch, Clara Bow has a decidedly vintage, feminine quality that harkens back to the days when women wore bags that matched their swingy rayon dresses. Clara is a romantic bag that wants to be sitting on the table as you enjoy a glass of wine, seltzer, or a special cocktail after your on-the-dock dinner. Easy to knit, felt, and finish, Clara comes in two different styles and colorways: make the bag in a solid color or bi-color versions and choose from a regular or oversized bow to decorate it. As with all Noni Bags, you can make this one felted or unfelted.
Materials:
Solid Bag:
750 yards (685m) worsted weight yarn (A)
Bi-color Bag:
630 yards (576m) of worsted weight yarn in (A) and 230 yards (210m) in (B)
Both Bags:
8mm, 24″ (61cm) circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
8mm straight or double-pointed needles to work bow
Tapestry needle, sewing needle & like-color sewing thread
2 Stitch markers
Unfelted Bags:
To make unfelted bags, use a single strand of worsted weight yarn (or smaller-gauge yarn that when held double is equivalent to worsted weight) and a size 8 (5mm) 24″ (60cm) circular needle (or size needed to achieve the “felted” gauge). If using single strand of worsted weight yarn, use approximately 2/3 the yardage listed above; if using two strands of lighter-weight yarn, use the same yardage as listed above.
Optional:
1 pack of 2mm or 3mm seed beads for embellishment
